The St. Andrew’s Spiritual Book Club will discuss Living Truthfully. This is the third section (p 111 - 155) of Christine Pohl’s book Living Into Community. This is an open discussion and all are invited. Our discussions have been quite animated! In this book, Christine Pohl explores four Christian practices- gratitude, promise-keeping, truth-telling and hospitality – that can strengthen a church and help build and sustain vibrant communities. Pohl writes of the Biblical and theological dimensions of these practices and the complications involved in practicing them in contemporary cultures. She also discusses the destructive deformations on the opposite side of these practices: envy, grumbling, betrayal, deception and exclusion. This is a profound, beautiful and challenging book. It is a definite must-read for all who want to broaden their understanding of the dynamics of being church and deepen their commitment to making that faith come alive.
SAEC Spiritual Book Club meets on the second Monday of the month from 6:30 - 8 pm at St. Andrew’s House. Or join our online discussion in Facebook under groups at SAEC Spiritual Reading Group.
