With a range of perspectives, personalities, and interests, we are connected by our common commitment to Christ.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs)
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) assist clergy by administering Eucharist at various church services. A LEM must be a confirmed member of the parish and licensed by the Bishop following special training. Contact Bruce Banta if you are interested in participating in this ministry.
The Altar Guild prepares the church for all worship services and maintains the vestments and altar wares. Through this ministry of beauty and service, individuals work in teams and serve one week per month. Teams meet on Saturday morning (during their service week) to set up the altar for the Sunday services, check the chapel, and handle needs for any services during their assigned week. Contact Stephen McCormick if you are interested in participating in this ministry.
Ushers serve one Sunday per month during regular worship and assist at special events throughout the year. Responsibilities include greeting all who enter the church, distributing service bulletins, helping locate name badges, and collecting the offering. In addition, ushers assist those with special needs, ensure that seating is available for all in attendance, and check that the church has a clean appearance for the next service. Contact Diana Burton if you are interested in participating in this ministry.
Rhythms of Grace
Rhythms of Grace is an ecumenical worship experience that is designed for families who wish to worship together in a relaxed atmosphere of acceptance. For children and young adults who have difficulty in a traditional worship setting, this service is accepting of all behavioral and developmental differences. We follow the traditional order of service – gathering, hearing God’s word, response to the story, sharing the Eucharist and going forth in peace. The service depends on the help of volunteers who greet families, provide music, and assist with the Eucharist. We meet each Sunday at 2 PM in the Parish Hall. Contact Lisa Puccio if you are interested in participating in this ministry.
The Celebration & Blessing of Marriage
Any celebration of marriage taking place at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church must conform to the rules, requirements, and practice of the Episcopal Church. Holy Matrimony is celebrated according to the provisions of the Book of Common Prayer and canon law of the Episcopal Church. One member of the couple must be a baptized Christian who is an active, attending, and pledging member of St. Andrew’s. If you need more information, please call our church office at 713-861-5596 and speak to the Rector. He will have a preliminary discussion with you and answer questions you may have.
Sacramental entry into the Christian community is through the joyous, welcoming service of Baptism. "All persons who have received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, whether in this (the Episcopal) Church or in another Christian Church, and whose baptism has been recorded in this church, are members thereof." (Canon 17, Section 1) If you have not been baptized and wish to discuss that possibility, please contact the church office.
Baptisms are celebrated on the following days: the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the first Sunday after Epiphany January 6); the Easter Vigil (Easter Sunday sunrise service); the 2nd Sunday of Easter; the Day of Pentecost; the Sunday before Labor Day; and November 1 or 1st Sunday after All Saints' Day (November 1). A Baptism Workshop for the parents, or candidates, and their sponsors or godparents is held the Saturday before each Baptismal day from 9 AM to Noon.
